New Jingle Tapps' "Sunny" Side of ThunderCloud
Those of you at SXSW this month may have heard a catchy new jingle on the radio for long-standing local brand ThunderCloud Subs.
Justin Tapp has heard ThunderCloud's can't-get-it-out-of-your-head-if-you-tried jingles since he was a college student in Austin.
When his company, Tequila Mockingbird, got the chance to write the local sandwichmaker a new jingle, Tapp jumped at the chance. So did his wife, actress Erinn Allison: she sings on the catchy new tune.
"I was trying to create something that was going to function as a jingle, and not be cheesy and alienate people," says Tapp. "I tried to make it sound like a song that might be on the radio--an indie-pop kind of thing--about the joint itself."
Tapp laughs: "I was trying not to be too obnoxious."
When the client came in, they were given about 16 jingles to choose from. They liked Tapp's "Sunny" jingle the best, but asked if they could hear it in a man's voice. Tequila Mockingbird happily complied, but Allison's voice won out.
"[The client] went back to the original 'girl' version," says Tapp. "Which is good, since it was the one I liked the most."
Kudos to Tapp for helping make Austin an ever-cooler place to live, listen and eat.
